Public Notice regarding COVID-19

In light of school closures around us, due to COVID-19, as a district and county that has not yet closed schools, we are looking very closely at the possibility of school closure. It is not a matter of “if we should close,” but more like “when we will close?” Our district is following the recommendations from our County Health Department and County Office of Education. Please look at our site and district websites for continuous updates. Things are changing rapidly. This will be the best way for you to stay updated. Thank you for your patience and collaboration.

In order to close school we must first receive a recommendation to close from the following:

1.   The Colusa County Health Department

2.   The Colusa County Office of Education

Williams Unified School District is currently working on preparing for school closure in all of our district departments and considering the following:

1.   How we will provide meals (breakfast/lunch) for students needing them while schools are closed?

2.   What kind of distance learning or instructional support will be provided for students?

3.   Identifying levels of technology access and internet access our students have at home?

4.   Maintenance and Operations department is identifying and preparing for deep cleaning and disinfecting classrooms and buildings for staff and student returns.

5.   Preparing and determining the impact of changes of staff levels of work and their working environments.

COVID-19 Update

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the California Department of Education (CDE) have advised school districts to prepare for a possible outbreak of the 2019 Corona Virus (COVID-19).

Currently, the health risk to the general public in California from the Coronavirus is low, however, our school district is taking additional precautions to prevent the spread of all infectious diseases. Our custodial staff will be placing extra attention on high contact areas such as door handles, tabletops, counters, equipment, and faucets.

The following preventative actions have been recommended by the California Department of Public Health and we encourage all persons to follow:

  • Stay home when sick:
    • Remain at home until fever has been gone for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medicines.
    • Seek immediate medical care if symptoms become more sever, e.g., high fever or difficulty breathing.
  • Use “respiratory etiquette”:
    • Cover cough with a tissue or sleeve.
    • Provide adequate supplies within easy reach, including tissues and no-tough trash cans.
  • Wash hands frequently:
    • Encourage hand washing by students and staff through education, scheduled time for handwashing, and the provision of adequate supplies.
  • Routinely clean frequently touched surfaces.

We understand the Coronavirus is causing concern for many of our parents and we will continue to provide updates from CDC and CDE as they become available.
